Poor footwork on oly lifts

Hey everyone - recently working on my snatch and realized I really need to improve my footwork. I've always had the issue of landing a bit wide at times but now I notice that I also land about 2-4 inches BEHIND my setup position.. My PR is 175# but barely missed a 200# the other night - if I had just kept my feet under me I think I could have easily gotten it up..

What are the best drills/exercises/tips to help improve the footwork?? Any input would be appreciated.. Thanks

That's not necessarily something to worry about....plenty of high-level lifters jump slightly backwards on the clean and on the snatch.

Although foot work is very important, as Eric mentioned jumping backward is not an issue. Just don't jump forward.

Re: Poor footwork on oly lifts

Be more concerned about the footwork of getting your feet to squat the weight rather than if you are going backward.

Going forward isn't good but some Elite lifters do so. Generally when the weights get way, way heavy. **** happens.

But most of the time I see people do it, they miss the lift or the weight isn't near the max. When it gets there though, they miss it because they have to chase after the bar.
