13.4 strategy

I'm looking for some tips to help me on this. I'm sure touch and will be the fastest, but I was thinking that in the higher sets I would break my C&J into sets dropping the bar between sets of 3 or something like that. What will you be doing?

Re: 13.4 strategy

I am not 100% sure...I will touch and go the 3 and 6 for sure. After that, I don't know. It's not just about the C&J, I am thinking about saving my forearms and grip for the TTB. I will also make sure to not blow out too quickly...

I timed myself doing 10 C&J's at this weight dropping and doing touch and go's and it was not a HUGE difference so long as you get right back to the bar.

Re: 13.4 strategy

Since it's only 7 mins I will try to touch and go as much as possible mostly because if I drop the bar I tend to break longer then I should. I want to limit that. But I'm sure my plans will all go to crap about 5mins in.

Re: 13.4 strategy

Should be fun. I think the fist 3 minutes will show a decent pace then it will be a grind. 7 minutes sounds short but my guess is it will feel long

Re: 13.4 strategy

did it right after they announced it. i am no games competitor by any stretch of the imagination, and have never tried to string c&j with this much weight, but here is what i got out of it. first set of 3, no problems anywhere. set of 6 started to get me. got 2 touch and goes and dropped it. did 2 more and then went to singles. got my 6 t2b with no issues. my 9 c&j were all singles, dropping the bar, taking a breath (or 2), and getting right back at it again. got 3 no reps on the t2b. feet were behind me, but hips weren't directly under the bar so the feet didn't go behind the bar. that threw my momentum off so i ended up coming off the bar twice. only got 9 of the 12 on the c&j and hit time. overall, honestly, the workout wasn't that bad. for me it was more of a strength issue than anything. cardio wise, other than catching my breath between c&j's, this is the first workout that i didn't contemplate puking so it wasnt that bad. and within 15 minutes, i was pretty much fully recovered. again, i'm no superstar. have only been crossfitting for about 6 months and my strength numbers aren't great. especially in the oly's. just my experience. take what you want, leave what you don't.

Thanks for the input. I like to hear other people's experience with the words. Any input is good input.

Re: 13.4 strategy

Something I'm recommending to all guys is to rest on a box, even if you're tall enough to jump up and grab a bar. So much better to have a place for your feet to go than to fall off the bar harshly and get your head down.

I'm going to use wishful thinking to try and get my first toes to bar ever, after doing my max C&J 3 times

A positive attitude will get you there. I have seen so many people do what they didn't think they could in this games. Saw a guy snatch 135lbs for the first time in his life during 13.1, then he went on to snatch it 4 more times. Then I judged a guy who was confident he wouldn't get through wall balls, and you know what? He finished them for 45secs to spare. If you think it, you can do it.

Re: 13.4 strategy

Gave this a shot this morning. I agree with the poster above, I was never "gassed out" so to speak. I got through the 3's & 6's very easy. In a 7 minute wod every second counts and I had a couple no reps on my T2B on the round of 9 and 12. After I was no rep'd I was overemphasizing my toe touches (basically kicking the bar) and it through my rhythm off. I got off the 12 toes to bar at 6:45 and got in 3 C&J's.
My goal at the start was to get through the round of 15 C&J's. This is the only wod I will give a 2nd attempt at - I paced myself on this one and as opposed to the other wods thus far I think you can give maximum effort for the entire wod.
