Re: Sports Illustrated's 50 Fittest Athletes

I'm pretty sure the SI numbers are just pulled out of their ***.

Men's Health looks better.

Fittest guy in the world has a 31" vertical. OMG, so fit!

****ing soccer.

This is by far my favorite post, a soccer player should be nowhere near the top of a fittest athlete on earth list unless falling down in a dramatic way when a gentle breeze strikes them counts as being fit.

Agree. Can't believe how people are into a sport with such actions. I lambasted it on facebook during this world thing we had last month.

Re: Sports Illustrated's 50 Fittest Athletes

You cannot argue about their fitness because of their behaviour. But you are right, soccer player have a lot of endurance, some run (sprint mostly) up to 12km in 90 minutes and are pretty good jumpers, but strength isn't their objective.

The fittest athlete in my opinion has to be a combination of a decathlete and a rugby back.

Re: Sports Illustrated's 50 Fittest Athletes

the list is just a bit of fun and more about marketing than anything else

of course a magazine like SI isn't going to publish a list with a majority of little known athletes, they want big names and they wanted to spread the love accross many sports. Obviously has the usual US bias (US athletes or international athletes well known in the US)

So British rugby players, obscure eastern european decathletes, lesser known crossfitters even lesser known boxers/mma fighters etc aren't going to be on such a list.

Re: Sports Illustrated's 50 Fittest Athletes

It is summertime. SI must have had a summer journalist intern, without much sports knowledge, come up with their scores. Most of them look like complete guesses.

How the heck are you judging the agility and strength of the distance runner and cyclist?

This helps illustrate one of the beauties of CrossFit. It is evidence based. There is not yet any better way to try to realisticly judge someone's fitness. In fact, when it comes to trying to objectively determine overall fitness, CrossFit may be the only game in town.

Re: Sports Illustrated's 50 Fittest Athletes

This SI list is the dumbest thing I've ever read in my life. The author obviously has a thing for Lebron, but this list loses all credibility when almost all the soccer players have a strength 1-2 points higher than Rich, even while Rich's picture has 335 (or more and no where near his max) over his head.

+1
Authors have no clue about sports. They took out random athletes and gave them random rankings. Nadal and Federer are not even top 20 of the fittest tennis players, how do they make this list?!? Federer has the same strenght rating than Rich Froning.

Much better list giving credit to the correct athlete's, not just a "who's hot at the moment" top 50.
