Clean error bar swinging out (Help!)

Hi all,

I have the same problem with my clean and snatch in that in both of them once I pull the bar to my hips instead of jumping up and keeping the bar close I thrust my hips forward and the bar swings right out in front of me.

Here's an example of this for a clean:

Is there any exercises or drills that you can prescribe to help me with this fault?

thanks in advance everyone

Re: Clean error bar swinging out (Help!)

To start will, your hips are too high from the beginning. Get them down a little lower and keep a more vertical torso throughout the pull. This is probably the biggest thing as it causes you to be out of position

You are basically stopping all your momentum at the contact point. You need to accelerate through the thigh/hip with the bar path as straight up as possible. Think of "standing up" as opposed to thrusting your hips forward.

What is your thought process as you go through the lift? Mine is basically... stay balanced, slow off the floor, explode straight up, get under the bar as fast as I can, and stand up.

It looks like you're doing a deadlift, then slamming the bar with your hips, and then trying to get under it.
