What barbells have a light knurl and no center knurling.

I'm looking to get a nicer barbell ($200-350) and I have two criteria. No center knurling, and a lighter knurling on the bar. I've scraped up my neck with center knurling and torn up my hands with aggressive, power-lifting knurling enough times that I now know what I want.

FWIW, I liked the feel of the B&R bar a lot, but sadly it has a center knurl.

(Yes, I searched. So I appoligize if this has been asked)

I own a Pendlay training bar and I believe it meets your above criteria. The Training bar is an upgrade from Pendlays HD bar series. I believe it has a smoother knurling than HD's because it hasn't seemed to tear up my hands as much. I know the shaft diameter on the Pendlay training bar is smaller than HD's because it meets IWF specifications and the HD's don't. Overall I have been happy with the upgrade from the HD bar to Pendlay training bar.

Justin,

To meet your criteria:

1) Rogue Bar

2) All Pendlay Bars to include the Men's Econ, Pendlay HD, Men's 20KG and Elite

Most bars with center knurl are setup for power lifting hence have a more aggressive knurl. The B&R bar does have center knurl but it is the classic York olympic knurl so it is not aggressive.

Hope that helps

Bill

Regarding all these bars you guys are talking about that don't have center knurling -- do back squats with these bars require the use of chalk on the back of your shirt like I've seen in some of the old BBing videos? I would think a bar with no center knurl would be quick to slide off. I'm in the market for an all-around, P-lift and O-Lift bar, so I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I back squat frequently with a bar with no center knurl. Never been an issue for me and I don't use chalk.

From what I understand, the finish of the bar can determine whether you will have issues doing back squat with no center knurling. I think the black zinc oxide bars are supposed to provide a bit more friction than the chrome bars.
