Reducing donkey kick

What are some good cues/exercises to reduce/eliminate a donkey-kick from the second pull of the olympic lifts?

Re: Reducing donkey kick

Practice the footwork without the bar. Fast, fast feet. Get to the landing stance as fast as possible. If you have time enough to do a donkey kick then you aren't getting to the landing stance fast enough.

(BTW the donkey kick is an error of the third pull, aka the pull under, not the second pull.)

Re: Reducing donkey kick

On the jump of the lift the feet kick backwards before getting into the landing position is a donkey kick.

Should we work on clean drops and snatch drops... have the bar in the rack position while standing, then drop quickly the to catch position? I've seen that done before, think that should work Lincoln?

Re: Reducing donkey kick

Yes, do tall cleans and drop snatches as part of a progression - after the footwork drills.
