Re: Lifting Heavy, Running Fast, Eating Well

Week 2 of Starting Strength

3-15-2010
Squat:
45x5
85x5
125x5
190x5x3 (work sets)

Press:
45x5
45x5
55x5
80x5x3 (work sets)

Power Clean:
45x3
65x3
75x3
105x3x5 (work sets)

Squats are getting moderately heavy. I bet by the end of week #3, I'll be feeling it. I hadn't done power cleans in SO long, that I really didn't know what weight to pick. As this is a linear progression program, I decided to err on the side of light, so I picked 105lbs.... which was way too light. I'll probably jump it 20lbs with my deadlift for my next workout. Such is life.

Tomorrow I have my yearly physical. I'm excited to see how all this eating paleo has effected my bloodwork. I'm thinking that I'll be improved (even though I was pretty much normal), but we'll have to see. It's hard snubbing conventional wisdom for a year, all the while eating essentially a high fat diet (60% of my cals). Mmmm bacon.

3-17-2010
Squat:
75x5
95x5
135x5
200x5x3

Bench:
75x5
95x5
95x5
135x5x3

Chin-ups (till failure):
11
8
7

Everything is still pretty easy. Squats are easy, but making me sweat now. Next week will start to get hard. Time to kick the milk drinking into gear I'm off to drink some Guinness. Slainte!

3-19-2010
3/19/2010
Squat:
75x5
95x5
135x5
210x5x3

Press:
45x5
45x5
57.5x5
85x5x3

Deadlift:
80x5
115X5
155X5
225X5

Squats are still pretty easy. Deadlifts felt super easy. I guess that's what you get for being 160lbs lighter than your 1RM. Still trying to eat my normal amount of food and drink more than 1/2gallon of milk per day... its hard. I've been full 24/7 for the past 3-4 days. Today, I could have EASILY skipped lunch, but I forced myself to eat. To top it off, I'm only up 2lbs in 2 weeks, which could be attributed to St. Patty's Day beer and cupcakes... who knows. If I drop weight this week, I'll be amazed/****ed lol.

Still waiting on the bloodwork. The doc said it'd be "about a week". I found my previous bloodwork from last year, and one from 2004 to compare to. I saw that my triglycerides were 180 in 2004.... sheesh! What I'm most hopeful for is my HDL... it was 35 in 2004 and 37 in 2009 (both very low).

Re: Lifting Heavy, Running Fast, Eating Well

I'm bringing this thread back from the dead, since I am posting on the boards again.

7/25/2011
  • Squats - 135x5x5
  • Press - 65x5x5
  • Pull-ups (strict, green band) - 21, 19, 14

Before a string of injuries, I was squatting 300x5x3... so this is a slow start. BUT... my foot is feeling good, and I will continue to squat 2x a week.

-Bo

I bought an ab wheel the other day. Because I care about my abs.
