Workouts in Sand

I was interested to see if anyone had done any workouts in sand. I am going to run my platoon to the pond on post tomorrow; that has about a 75 m long beach on an incline. I am having trouble thinking of things to do with them there, other then sprints, burpees, lunges, etc. If you have any suggestions for additional exercises that will smoke us it would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Workouts in Sand

If you've got duffel bags you can have them fill them up and sprint with them, dump them out, repeat.

Re: Workouts in Sand

Crab walks, bear walks, etc., etc., are particularly fun in the sand, as well.

Re: Workouts in Sand

Sprints, bearwalks, ... all of the above.

If you can get your platoon to work in pairs, you can have them do wheelbarrow walks, one of the two carrying the other's feet while the first one "walks" with his hands.

I really, really like shuffle sprinting in sand by the way. 5 shuffle sprints, followed by some burpees and wheelbarrow walks, followed by another 5 shuffle sprints, simply the best. You can have the two guys of each pair try to beat each other on the last shuffles.

Re: Workouts in Sand

All this advise looks like its going to hurt for my guys hahah. Thanks for the suggestions so far. I probably shoulda searched for beach along with sand and i woulda found that one thread.

As far as the duffel bag workout, unfortunately we are packing up for the real sandbox, so duffels are all partially packed.
