U.S. Army Applies CrossFit to Prevent Injuries (wfs)

I'm glad to see this article about the Army doing CrossFit, and researching injury rates. When I was in the Army I did push-ups, sit-ups, and running. That's it. The variety of CrossFit is much more satisfying.

Here are some interesting points from the article:
- No injuries reported during level I certifications for 2,000 soldiers
- 3rd Infantry Division provided equipment for CrossFit to every company-level unit
- Unit wide PT test scores improved 7% after implementing CrossFit
- A study of 200 soldiers will compare fitness of one group doing CrossFit to another group following the Army's Field Manual 7-22.

I hope the Russells post a follow-up when that study is finished.

For discussion sake:
Injury rates may be lower in athletes who have had level I certification, (i.e., a better knowledge foundation) than the average CrossFit athlete. I hope the study indicates certifcation/knowlege level of the participants.

Re: U.S. Army Applies CrossFit to Prevent Injuries

I pushed a lot when I was active duty for units to do more Crossfit but was met with opposition. Now, it seems that the Commanders are listening....

Here's another article that I read a while back. (WSF)
