Kosher Grassfed resource

Anyone know of a real grassfed kosher meat supplier. I like in NYC, the Kosher food mecca, but can only buy Kosher organic or "grassfed" meat that is finished on grains. I want the real thing....

Re: Kosher Grassfed resource

If all else fails, there are a good number of farmers that sell their meat online by the pound. I'm not sure on the quality, having never tried it myself, but at first glance their web sites at least look like they offer quality.

Search for Tallgrass Beef (I was going to order from them at one point). They're not Kosher, as far as I know, but it's all grass fed. If you need Kosher beef because of religious views, then that's one thing, but if it's a humanitarian sort of thing, keep in mind that many Kosher plants are just as bad to their stock as your typical factory farm.

To me the word Kosher just means it was killed by a Rabbi by having its throat cut; doesn't necessarily imply anything humane.

We have a Whole Foods here (some continue to remind me that Whole Foods isn't the angel that it's often made out to be) where I just purchased grass fed flank steak for a pretty penny. I was in NYC a year and a half ago and I could have sworn they had a Whole Foods there.

Just make sure you know what you're buying instead of going only on labels, is all I'm trying to say Nothing wrong with buying it online provided you have room for 25 pounds of ground beef in your freezer

I make a deal with a local farmer to get the meat before he does the grain finish. Being polite and being a military pilot when talking to a retired military guy who now has cows helps too.

Actually do need the KOSHER meat for religious reasons. Thanks for the input though.

Check Local Harvest - http://www.localharvest.org/
And Eat Wild - http://www.eatwild.com/

Both links are safe.

Re: Kosher Grassfed resource

Wish I could be of help here, Sarena...

It's likely that $$-wise it's hard enough on the grassfed guys that adding kosher practices would put things out of reach...that's my guess anyway.

Although, it would seem quite the opportunity for a rabbi cattle farmer!

Re: Kosher Grassfed resource

Dnes Farms in NYS is one of the farms I buy from. Last week, one of the distrubutors told me the farm is in the process of acquiring its own slaughterhouse, and they plan to provide a kosher option.

Here's a link to their website:

Re: Kosher Grassfed resource

Thanks Susie, that's who I get my meat and chicken from actually. I get it directly from Wise Kosher Organics or buy Solomon Bison, I have even gotten
Kosher natural venison

All the aformentioned products are great but I believe they are all grain finished!! But hey its the best I can do so I will accept that!
