G'day Mates. My name is Goodsy, I play Australian Rules football (Footy) in the USA.

Footy is the greatest ball sport ever created, our field is generally 2-3X larger then an NFL Field. It requires the ability to run 15-20 meters a match (80 minutes with 2 5 min breaks and one 10), kick, handball, jump, sprint, tackle, pretty much every skill that CF can improve. I'm excited to be here and have many of the boys from the squad starting to get into it as well.

I am 29 years old, 6'4", and weighing in at 230lbs. I am coming off of 8 months of no activity due to surgery and other issues. I am cleared for exercise and am dedicated to getting rid of the fat and back in shape for the season and life to come.

I've been reading and researching and have recently started to accumulate the things i need to do the WOD's at home. I look forward to being a part of the community and hopefully some one will open CF gym locally in Ft. Lauderdale ASAP.

Cheers Mates

Uh, 15 - 20 "meters" in a match?

Maybe you mean kilometers?

Joshua,
CHEERS and good luck.
rugby: a game for ruffians, played by gentlemen
footie: a game for ruffians played by hooligans
...I'd like to see that!

Any one can run into a wall of players John, but not everyone can kick a 60M goal whilst being tackled. FYI I do play both sports, just prefer Footy over Rugby.

Footy is a bit easier in the states to develop. Our Club is trying to build a youth league to get kids in shape. It's much easier to tell parents your kids gets to be the QB, WR, Punter, Goalie, and basketball Point Guard. Where as in American football just one kid gets to be the "Star". Also in the states Rugby has a negative connotation for being a thugs sport (warranted or not), so its harder to get youth to play.

My goal as a parent and an athlete is to get kids in shape and have fun. If I can meet my goals and get kids involved maybe we can get a CF affiliate in Ft. Lauderdale with a CF kids section as well.

Joshua,
...understand the the nature of the game, just commenting on the 'reckless abandon' with which the more committed players play...I tried it once and it kicked my @#$!!!

Good luck with the league...
