Re: Gina Johnson's Log

Exactly Patrick, who knew this would be the end result but it makes sense now.

Camille, Oh I know! The way Patrick explains it makes total sense to me now. I should've taken all that into consideration.Sure you may have the strength do do a particular exercise but other factors may have to be taken into consideration like can the body handle that motion w/ that amount of reps. Obviously mine couldn't. Boy do ya live and learn!

Re: Gina Johnson's Log

I'm so sosrry to hear about your arms. That would have scared me silly. SO, are you going to do straight SS or a hybrid? You are so strong already you are going to be kicking some major bootie with SS under your belt.

Re: Gina Johnson's Log

you look great in your avatar Vanessa! I'll tell you, frankly I don't feel like doing much of anything. Chances are good though that once I'm back to normal, I'll jump on the SS.

Re: Gina Johnson's Log

I personally would LOVE to see you go for SS, Gina. ...and then you could drop by a Powerlifting comp and show everyone what's what.

I'm sorry to hear about the soreness as well. I've experienced a similar thing while kipping with a supinated grip - thing is, while you're in the middle of all of this - you have no idea what's going on in your bicep - the aftermath is hoooorrible. Don't forget to move the muscle while you ice (better distribution of effect of ice)! I'd also say, when you're ready, if you can lightly massage some of that wounded tissue - your recovery will be a lot better.

Gina- Sorry to hear about your arms. That must have been pretty freaky for them to stay pumped up like that.
I hope you're feeling better real soon! SS+Metcon=Hybrid which really rocks! I'll keep my fingers crossed for your quick recovery.

Re: Gina Johnson's Log

Hey Gina! So sorry to hear about your arms... That sounds painful. I never really do underhand pull-ups so I've never felt that kind of bicep pain. Patrick's explaination makes sense though... The rest will do you some good I'm sure... Just coming off of a week break myself and I'm so ready to get back into things...

Take care of yourself...

Re: Gina Johnson's Log

Thanks SO much you guys for your well wishes!! They're teasing me at work, calling me popeye arms. I gave that guy a dirty look today that asked if my deadly pullups were cheating (just kidding).

Erin, Sorry to hear you've been through this too. Hate knowing anyone has experieced this sort of pain. I will definetly do the massaging hopefully tomorrow and didn't think agbout moving the muscle while icing..totaly akes sense.

I can now raise my arms overhead..yippee, but still cannot straighten them out. Still so swollen.

Well, just did some tabata squats today:18,17,20,18,19,18,20,21
Felt good to do something!

Re: Gina Johnson's Log

Hope the recovery is continuing. I had a similar thing years ago when I did a Pump class (ok, yeah, it was 12 years ago, I was young!) and did about a bajillion bicep curls and then couldn't straighten my arms for 3 days. It was not good. I'm sure you'll be back on deck soon!

Re: Gina Johnson's Log

You probably found my old case of this with the search engine (I mentioned it in Matt's thread). I know what you're going through, and I agree that it's just about the most painful thing ever. Heal up soon - I definitely won't be calling you out for taking an extended time off here... only having a few degrees of semi-painless ROM stinks.

Always be careful with pull-ups. They seem to have rather destructive tendencies if you're not ready for the extra volume (suddenly turning to kipping pull-ups could mean about 2x the reps in less time than before. Bad stuff).
