Anders, the CFF stands (above) are a terrific alternative to larger racks, offering a very small footprint overall. For under $200 you can have a solid piece of equipment which will treat you well and last for a very long time.
I also have the CFF squat stands in my garage, and they're pretty awesome for the price. I went with these because I wanted something portable as well.

Check out the 1 piece squat stand from Can't beat it for the price. I love mine.

Not sure how much you are lifting but cant get much more portable than this Worksafe

isn't one bucket ~100lbs? economical maybe, but i wouldn't say portable

I'm not sure what your storage limitations are. But we developed the Phantom. People love this thing man. Works great. (W/FS)
