Paleo/zone Block 30 day challenge

I decided to take my 30 day challenge a step further after watchig Nicole Carroll's video. So I figured out my my blocks (I think). Day 1 is tomorrow.

I'm going to post my weekly results

This is what I have figured out for the next four days.

Breakfast
3 eggs
1/2 cup of salsa
1Tbs avacado
1/3 cup steel cut oatmeal
1/2 cup mixed berries

Snacks - twice per day
1oz tuna
1tsp light mayo
3/4 cup tomato or 1 cucumber

Lunch
4 1/2oz gound turkey
1 1/2 cups cooked mixed peppers and onions
1/2 orange

Dinner
3 oz chicken
1/5 baked sweet poatato
1 cup green beens
1/4 cantaloupe

I will have 4 CF WODS weekly.

My goal is to lose weight, but I haven't set a number. It's going to based on how my body feels and performs.

Any constructive feeback is welcome.

How many blocks is that? And what's your height/weight/estimated BF%? That looks like a pitifully small amount of food for someone with any significant activity level.

And if you're going to call it Paleo, then oats and mayo don't fit in there.

My fast math says that's 12 blocks.

unless you're 10 years old, that's not enough food. Period.

Thanks for the feedback!

It's 11 blocks. There are only a couple non-paleo itmes I will eat. That's why I called it paleo/zone. It seems like a lot of food to me, but it's only week 1 so will have to see how it goes.

I based what I needed off of the CrossFit journal meal plan issue 21. This is the breakdown for women:

small female 10 blocks
medium female 11 blocks
large female 13 blocks
athletic well muscld female 14 blocks

The blocks are quite a bit lower for women than men.

Re: Paleo/zone Block 30 day challenge

I don't know anyone who eats 11 blocks a day and is good at CrossFit. Maybe that person exists, but I have yet to meet them on these forums or in the real world.

If you're already doing 30 days of Paleo, why Zone? I don't see it as a "step further." I see it as totally unnecessary in most cases.

Re: Paleo/zone Block 30 day challenge

11 blocks is roughly 1100 calories, give or take a few. You cannot support any kind of intense activity and recovery on that kind of food intake. That's only a little more food than the Tracy Anderson method recommends.

Go for it if you want, but be prepared to feel miserable and make minimal or zero progress in the gym and in terms of improving body composition.

I was actually going to add up the calories.

I'm going to see how I feel the first couple days. If anything I will probably add more protein and fat. I think the amount of roughage is fine. Along with getting a membership at Sam's Club.

It was just a starting point with what I was able to research on my own. I guess that's how we learn, through trial and error.

What are your thoughts on coffee/tea?

Thanks for the feedback.

Re: Paleo/zone Block 30 day challenge

Just trust us, we've seen people try almost everything out there, and we've got a pretty good idea of what will work and what won't. 11 blocks won't work unless your most intense activity is walking up the stairs to your office.

More protein and fat are always a good way to go.

Coffee and tea are fine as long as you aren't loading them up with sugar or any other junk, and as long as you aren't drinking so much that you're jittery or creating cortisol or adrenal problems. A little heavy whipping cream or coconut milk should be about the only thing going in your coffee...as for tea, I don't drink it so I don't know the best way to make it drinkable.

I am a desk jockey so other than CF WODs I don't do much during the week physically. lol
I only allow myself one caffeine beverage in the morning. Then it's water the rest of the day. Or water with crytal light.

Time to get cooking for the week.
