well that was demotivating

so, good thing i didn't sign up for the open (maybe it was too ambitious a goal)

i had a look at the first workout -
40 Burpees
75 pound Snatch, 30 reps
30 Burpees
135 pound Snatch, 30 reps
20 Burpees
165 pound Snatch, 30 reps
10 Burpees
210 pound Snatch, as many reps as possible

I can't even clean 210, and 165 is my 1RM for a clean....oh the shame...

which leads me to my next question, if my 'best' isn't even enough to enter the open, is there/ are there any 'base' weights that i should measure up to before even considering the open?

You can't do 40 burpees?

Any score is better than a 0. Who's to say next week won't be something you can crush?

It's still Crossfit. Scale accordingly.

Rumor has it, at next year's Crossfit Games, they're going to simplify the routine. The athlete won't let go of the bar in those 17 minutes: snatch, drop to burpees, jump right back up right into a snatch, smoothly and with proper form, your hands gripping the bar the entire the time. It'll be 200 "snurpees" in 17 minutes

Re: well that was demotivating

a) You can still register.

b) With a WOD like this, obviously many people can't get to that last round, but it's easy enough that everyone can at least start and see how far they get. At my box, everyone who's been around for at least a couple months could get through at least the first round of snatches (and then more burpee torture). For people who sign up for the fun of it, that's a good enough start. On the other end, the last couple rounds are hard enough to allow the Games level competitors to stand out. Everyone can participate, but you still pick out the elite, so I think it's a pretty good kickoff.

Like Kelli said you can still register!! Even if you don't register I would still suggest hitting the workout since it seems so fun! Just scale to a point that challenges but doesn't crush like you would any other workout.

Re: well that was demotivating

My snatch is a measly 115# right now which is bad for my size but I haven't tried going heavier in quite some time. I'm still gonna hit the workout tomorrow; my goal is 101 points. If I can get to the 135# snatches and even get 1 of them, it will be a great day!

That's the spirit!

If I make it to the 165# snatch and do more than one, I'll be a happy camper. (165 is my max on snatch.)
