are these to be done against a wall? i mean **** i know i dont have the balance as of yet to do them without a wall, i have the strength though... im just curious as to how they are supposed to be performed.

Against the wall is fine. I think all but the most advanced people do them that way. What I'm finding is that I'm gradually getting more and more comfortable "free-standing" for a few moments before I tip one way or the other. I think a lot of it has to do with specific strength, and your confidence in that strength.

As I understand it, you're also supposed to touch your nose or top of your head to the ground, which is rough for higher reps even with a wall.

Free standing ups the strength requirement of HSPU tremendously. Doing 1 HSPU free requires a constant compensation while you go through the motion. I encourage everyone to work towards doing these free standing, but be patient as it will take some time.

yeah it will definitely take some time! thats tough stuff! i am getting pretty good at the hand stands.. the only thing that gets me is ill over correct sometimes and tip over

Another important skill. Practice rolling out of the handstand. This should become second nature.
