I start the synvisc series and see the knee specialist Wednesday. My knee's history; ACL/ Medial Meniscus tear, repaired in 78. 20+ years in the Army "God Loves the Infantry". Diagnosed lax ACL/frayed Meniscus; Knee Debridement 93, Diagnosed uni-compartmental degeneration in 97. The adventure begins

On my second week of Hyalgan injections, first injection last Wednesday seemed to help but it also could be the Celebrex and Percocet. Had the second injection this Wednesday no noticeable difference. Still taking it easy and taking meds that barely work Ortho next week

Wednesday was the Third week of Hyalgan injections, no noticeable difference. Still taking it easy and taking meds that barely work.

Thursday Spent the day at Ortho with the knee specialist, we reviewed my x-rays; MRI’s, examined my knee and discussed my options. My knee is trashed, serious Tricompartmental degeneration of left knee with deformities
Pending total knee replacement in April. Best option for me

Hi Pete, This is my first post so if I screw-up sorry. First, Thank YOU for your service. I had a partial knee (right) four years ago at age 51. I will be getting a full knee on the left on 3-5. I've been doing Crossfit for about a year and the right is holding up great. I'm hoping to be able to do a little less modifcation (squats are so-so as I can't get too low and rarely push past 250 lb.) once I'm recovered. I did a couple of synvic series on the right; first time great results but with diminishing results (third series useless). I didn't do themon the left as I decided to get teh surgery.

Total Knee Replacement on 2 April
I need the operation I’ve had the shots, wear a knee brace and taken pain killers since 2000, Motrin to Lortab. I quit running several years ago substituted, heavy bag, and stationary bike for runs. Scaled the weights I use, 205 squats and 315 deadlift, etc. But Osteoarthritis has taken its toll no cartilage left its bone on bone.

I'm betting you'll do just fine. I had a left TKR one year ago. My knee history is pretty similar to yours. I was a wildland fire fighter, not Army but still hard on knees.

There is good Crossfit life after TKR, but some mods are required for me.

Surgery went well
PAIN after surgery was incredibly BAD!!!
The next day not as bad walking with crutches
Third day it’s a dull ache and I’m home, using one crutch
Ortho doctors have me on Percocet, blood thinners and iron pills
Working on range of motion now and strengthening exercises

Be sure to take stool softners. Between the narcotics and iron you gonna have problems delivering the mail.

If you can switch to desiccated liver pills, Whole lot better than iron pills as you get protein and heme iron and vit b12.

Ferrous.... Buuurrrrrrr.
