We've had a desire to offer some type of 'self defense' to our members since our opening, Oct 2005. I have been a student/instructor of Isshinryu throughout the years since 1971, however, I do not have any interest in 'bringing up black belts' any more.
I have been aware of Krav Maga since my military days, however, I read a post on this message board about Commando Krav Maga recently and began doing some research on both, KM and CKM. I chose CKM after learning the founder and Chief Instructor, Moni Aizik, is still, to this day, training the elite Israeli comando's. I attended an instructor training. 14 began the training, 7 finished and 6 were awarded instuctor certificates. Very intense!! Last week we had an 'Introduction to Commando Krav Maga' seminar for our members to explain the 'what and why' of the program and determine the level of interest. We had 53 attend the seminars and have over 20 enrolled. (no advertising other than an announcement within MBC) I highly recommend Commando Krav Maga to CrossFitters and affiliates. www.commandokrav maga.com. It seems it will be a great complement to our current programs. Commando Krav Maga, in my opinion, is the 'CrossFit of Reality Based Self Defense'. www.mtbakercrossfit.blogspot.com |

That is great Skip. Are CKM classes included with the regular monthly fee or is it an additional cost to current Mt. Baker members?

Hey Skip, thanks for the post.
Prior to this, most of the Krav Maga video I had seen I was not very impressed with. Till this and researching Moni Aizik, I had never heard of Lotar and Kapap either which I just taken a look at it and enjoyed. I had seen just tidbits of Haganah, which intrigued me a lot more than KM. I find some very similar movement patterns to some of the russian systems out there with them. Same concepts, same ordeals, and similar creations of all the systems. That man is a tree trunk of a man. Skip: Been doing Krav for 2.5 years, it's a great work out, and very functional, which is why it fits in so nicely with Crossfit. I find once you get the techniques, you still get a lot out of the random follow up aggression. Learning to respond to openings and then how to defend your partner who is doing the same can never be practiced enough. You will probably find that you will get some new customers for Krav, who will then become interested in the Crossfit. Congratulations and good luck with your new endeavor.

Bobbi-Krav Maga has not changed during the past 35 years. Commando Krav Maga is constantly changing and you really never learn all of the techniques. Some of the techniques changed after feedback received from soldiers during the recent conflict between Israel and Lebanon. CKM is the only system taught to the IDF, currently.
We've already added 12 new members in 2 weeks and have added 3 more CKM classes.(without any outside advertising) It has been an awesome complement to our facility. www.mtbakercrossfit.blogspot.com |

Bobbi- I want to correct my previous post. It was not my intent to dishonor nor degrade Krav Maga. I've discovered my first statement, "Krav Maga has not changed during the past 35 years." is an incorrect statement. I apologize.
