Re: diy wooden squat rack with pull up bar
Been a while, but I'm finally getting it done, have simplified the designs a lot.
I 've bolted two 2"x6" beams to the ceiling (3m30) and the floor at approx 93cm (3 ft) from each other Pull-up bar @ 2,3m (7,5 feet) J-cups (and I'm pretty proud of having figured that one out) that I can put at 1" (2,5 cm) intervals. I have drilled a hole for 12mm (1/2") bolts every 2" (5cm) in the vertical beams. In the J-cup, also at 2", but with a 0,5" offset from the center. This allows me to have two heights with a 1" difference on every position by simply turning the J-cup 180° around. ![]() Next : finishing touches, storage and flooring. Just wanted to share. |

I'll be honest I would be scared of them splitting and crashing. I think from the looks of it the wood is in a dangerous position to split where the bolts are and to have the bar come down. |

Re: diy wooden squat rack with pull up bar
For now, I only have 115lbs (53 kg) worth of barbell and plates, and I'm still working mostly on technique, not on strength or weigth.
Bodyweight is 183 lbs (83 kg). I think that if I ever go beyond squatting 250 lbs (113kgs), I'll treat myself with a regular power rack as a birthday present. Long way to go though... |

Re: diy wooden squat rack with pull up bar
I love the simplicity of this rig, but I thought the same thing as Shawn. My fear would be the wood "ripping" where the holes are drilled close together in line with the wood grain.

Re: diy wooden squat rack with pull up bar
This thread is old enough that I don't know if Gilles will see it, but here is a better way to set a wooden "J-cup."
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5f4LisZBCTk (wfs) Cut a groove into the post before setting the J-cup and bolts so the weight is supported by the post itself and not only the bolts. It's a way to address the issue that Shawn and Kristopher brought up. |

Re: diy wooden squat rack with pull up bar
Hmm. I just read Gilles description a little closer. For adjustable height J-cup, the idea of setting the J-cup into the post wouldn't work.
How about one of these at least? http://www.homedepot.com/p/OWT-Ornam...FcJ4AQodx4sBtQ (wfs) An offset bracket would also be moveable. Now we're getting into have a lot of stuff to move and adjust.... |
