Rhabdo stats?

Hey all,

I searched for this elsewhere but can't find actual stats for rhabdo cases from varying causes(crushing injury, drug OD, etc.) Robb Wolf and Coach have mentioned two stats that caught my ear: 1) Exercise is the 5th leading cause of rhabdo, and 2) Marathons have the most rhabdo fatalities (coach claims 1 death for about every other marathon, which seems extreme). Where does this data come from? Anyone know sources?

Re: Rhabdo stats?

if you find any, PLEASE post then here. I've done tons of research, as have my doctors and they can't even find more than 2 or 3 cases in the medical journals. (the three they found are also available online).

Re: Rhabdo stats?

Here's a study that some official DoD medical agency or another did recently, hope it helps:

Re: Rhabdo stats?

its not something that most hospitals track. And if it does occur... the most common cause of it in the community is alcohol related. Drinks too much, passes out, and lies in bed or on the floor for hours on end before someone finds them..

you may not find the current stats. You could look at Harrison's principles for internal medicine or emergency medicine by Rosen.

they are the golden textbooks of medicine.
