wrist injury and grip strength

i severed four tendons and two nerves in february. i got back enough motion to make a fist and enough grip to knock out 15 pullups and i weigh 185lbs.
my question is whether i should scale weight on things loke deadlifts and cleans to what i can grip on my own of if i should use a strap for my right (dominant) hand? not using a strap would cut my deadlift strength in half and i dont know if it would be worth it to scale because i think i get enough grip training doing pullups as warmup and a grip trainer at work, my grip has been improving
any thoughts/ arguments would be appreciated

Re: wrist injury and grip strength

As a side note my brother severed numerous tendons in his wrist getting cut up with glass many years ago - he is now an amazing rock and ice climber.

In my opinion using wraps for deadlifts would be a good idea as long as you are still working on yor grip. Do your warmups without wraps and work up in weight to where you need them. Starting Strength by Mark Rippetoe has a section on using straps and you may want to put a question on his board over at ************.com for more information.
