i understand some metcon workouts can be broken down into lower reps with more sets to complete the total workout if necessary and some should not, but i'm sometimes confused as to where this should or shouldn't be applied. the 'michael' wod is taking me over 35 minutes, and i think i could do it substantially faster and with less rest necessary between broken sets of back extensions and particularly situps if i did 6 sets (400m run, 25 back extensions, 25 situps) in lieu of 3 sets (800m run, 50 back extensions, 50 situps).
the back extensions and especially situps are taking more time than the running, and this seems backwards. by the 3rd set of 50 situps it may take me 3 sets to get from situp #41 to situp #50, with plenty of rest between the small sets, or i literally fail trying to sit up. is there anything wrong with doing it in 6 smaller rounds until my endurance permits me to do it more quickly as rx'd? won't i be getting the same basic benefits of this specific wod?
