ROGUE Tactical Sandbag Review

So Rogue just recently came out with some new sandbags. Per their site, there are three different sizes

RECOMMENDED WEIGHTS FOR THE SIZE VARIANTS
Large Bag : 160LBS - Large Filler: 35LBS
Medium Bag : 80LBS - Large Filler: 15LBS
Small Bag : 45LBS - Small Filler: 10LBS

I have the Medium Sandbag along with (1) Large Filler Bag and (1) Medium Bag. Here's a shot of all 3 next to each other: (all links are WFS)

As you can see the Large filler bag is slightly longer than the sandbag itself. Notice both filler bags are not empty. They are filled with the recommended weights of 35lbs and 15lbs as appropriate. Also, the bags are sealed via a double fold velcro closure. There is velcro on the inside to make sure no sand gets out, and then it folds over again and fastens on the outside as a secondary measure.

As you can see in that picture, there's actually quite a bit of room. Now, I would guess we can actually fill up each bag with a little more than the recommended fill weights based on this picture. I would honestly guess you could fit another 10lbs in each filler bag pretty easily. However, I'll let Bill chime in here if there are any potential issues with that. For now, I'm leaving them at the weights they are at.

Impressions:
So far it's been pretty fun to use. Haven't done any hill runs with the filler bags just yet, but I intend on trying that this weekend. The construction of the bags themselves seem sturdy and I like the different types of handles. Right now, I can do 15-, 35, or 50-lb work with the bags so I've played around with some sandbag cleans and overhead squats (that'll work your grip pretty hard). No real major cons other than the buttons that close after it's zipped up are kind of a pain to close, but over time, I'm sure they'll loosen up.

The only thing I would recommend as far as this setup is concerned, is that I would probably skip getting a medium sandbag and just get the large one instead. It's quite a bit bigger and you can always fill it with less sand to your liking. You can always add more later.

Overall, two thumbs up to Rogue. I'll keep posting to this thread after I do some more workouts with them.

Great Review - Thanks Jeremy!

Here are some of the reasons behind the weight:

1) If you pack the filler bags like a sausage they have a much higher tendency for failure. We have done our best to offset that by doubling up on the stitching and using a heavy cordura material.

2) The weight in the filler bags should move around as it should be a lopsided mess of a thing to pick up. If you pack it tight it will be a bit easier to handle and the goal is to make it difficult.

Every piece in the system is made with 1000D Cordura and DWR treated per MIL specs.

We make them in Logan, OH which is my hometown so based on the reviews we can always improve the product!!!

You know William I find it very funny you say they are according to "military specs". These are our designed sandbags from the shells to the fillers, as a former distributor of ours you are infringing on a lot of issues by copying our designs in the manner you have. These aren't "military specs", rather my specs you guys copied. You charge more to people and give them additionally less. We will be in contact with you shortly about these issues, but I find it unethical what your business has chosen to do.

The materials are MIL Specs and have been changed from your design.

Your materials may be "military specs" but that is because it is a copy of our product. Here is a comment from one our customers that served in the military and was in charge of equipment...

Bought a medium and large examples of Josh's sandbags. Extremely happy with them.
