Quick Update

Almost 2 weeks in and I must say, I am really enjoying these workouts. After YEARS of doing the same old at the gym, Crossfit is a refreshing change of pace.

Will I do crossfit forever? Can't say... but for now it's looking pretty good.

I definately have to work on my handstands, as discussed in a previous post. My pullups are a little rough, too. I practiced the kipping pu a little this AM and I think I'm getting the hang of it.

My lifts are pretty decent I think. Did my first Push Jerks this AM and hit 145. It's an awkward lift... I'm sure I could do more weight but I wasn't comforatable yet - need some time.

Looking forward to Grace tomorrow - I've seen enough videos and read enough posts to know that she's "wonderful." We'll see how that goes.

In other news, I ripped my calluses open half way through the pullup variation workout. I quickly learned to grip the bar with my fingers and not my palms. Later that day I found a video explaining the same thing... too little too late.

I did find a post with a link describing good taping methods. Last night I bought tape, followed the instructions and didnt feel a thing this morning when I warmed up with a few pullups. There was one problem, though... I have super hairy arms, and moving my wrists was like torchure... removing the tape sucked pretty bad, too. Anybody out there have a remedy for this other than shaving the hair off my wrists? (not an option, btw...)

That's it for now. I've started a workout log and will keep it as updated as possible. Thank you all for your help, tips and support.

-I

Re: Quick Update

Hey Ivan, I have been doing CF a little over a month now, and I will never go back to the same-old-gym-workout......
Keep up the good work
For the tape on the arms, you need to get some "second skin" (yes it is a real thing) or thin foam under wrap

Re: Quick Update

You already did push jerks today. You'd be better off doing something else tomorrow instead of more push jerks. It's okay to work the same muscle group two days in a row, but doing heavy push jerks two days in a row isn't all that productive for a CFer.

Re: Quick Update

Right.

Hmmm... so what am I supposed to do? The WODs on the site are on a 3:1 schedule, but I'm on the 5:2.

Thoughts? Should I just work through it?

Easy, just do the 4x800m tomorrow and Grace the day after.

Re: Quick Update

Can't do that. Since I was off last Fri I decided to go to the track with the wife and did that workout.

F-it... I'll just muscle through it!

Thanks for the heads up, though.

Re: Quick Update

Dont hesitate to scale that Grace....try and do it with very little rest...a couple breaths in between and then keep going! I friggin love that WOD. It's great you are at an affiliate, and can get some good coaching on your form. Incorporate the Burgener warmup into your daily warmup, and the essentials of the last part of the pull will be solidified. How's that ankle?
