Crossfit Regional/Games- C2 Damper Setting

Is there a "standard" for what the damper setting should be on the C2 Concept Rower for Crossfit qualifier/games?

Personal choice. Higher is not always "more work." Most elite rowers seem to prefer a low damper setting.

I think I remember some CrossFit event calling for a level 6 (I think) damper setting. There's no CrossFit default damper setting, though, no.

Re: Crossfit Regional/Games- C2 Damper Setting

I think the Midwest Qualifier last year set it at "3.5." I think the theory is that it's roughly the resistance that most rowers say the water feels like.

I think forcing a specific damper is like banning people from choosing which gear to use on a bike. I guess you could make some argument for doing it, but overall I think it's stupid and it arbitrarily favors the people that happen to be good at rowing on the specific setting you pick.

Plus 3.5 on one rower on one given day can be far different from 3.5 on another rower on another day. Damper doesn't really tell you much so you've gotta check drag factor to make an accurate assessment on the resistance, and drag factor can be affected by temperature, humidity, how much dust is trapped in the fan, the age of the C2, etc. I've seen a damper of 3 on one rower produce the same drag factor as a 9 on another.

If sectionals/regionals are doing that, they should stop IMHO. For reasons noted above...

Eh...looks like Northwest Regional is requiring an arbitrary damper setting of 4...this is not a good idea IMHO.

If I heard the announcement correctly, the damper was set to level 4 as guided by Concept2. I don't think it was an arbitrary decision.

Re: Crossfit Regional/Games- C2 Damper Setting

The standard Damper setting for competitive rowing is 5-6.
