The Conscious Carnivore
So, a year ago I got a herniated disc as a result of crew, and tried to continue strength training, then crew, then crossfit over the past year. My disc hasn't healed as of yet, so I decided to crack down with rehab. Chiropractor, no weight-bearing activities, paleo with IF....its going to heal if I have to kill myself to make it happen.
So, I am taking a mark's daily apple approach to training (some sprints, a lot of push-ups/pull-ups, air squats, and, most importantly, reverse glute-ham raises, to pump the fluid back in). Hoping to be good within 6 weeks-ish. Thought it would be a good idea to make this journal because some of the information about disc rehabilitation is conflictin Made another thread earlier, but really started rehab today, and the old title sucked. Breakfast 3 pastured eggs onion pepper salsa Lunch chicken, pork, vegetable with hot sauce Dinner tuna, hot sauce, broccoli, pecans, glass of milk Training: 5x 10 pushups, 20 lunges, 200 meter run (8.00) a million back extensions (reverse) dead bugs chiropractor this morning (felt solid) Iced 3 times today. Will go for 4 tomorrow. What is a conscious carnivore? Basically, I eat completely paleo plus raw milk, very careful where I get meat from. I try to get all of it from farmer's markets, but with school coming it will get tough. No patience for vegetarians/vegans here. On a side note, I had a vegetarian at work tell me about how humans are not "designed" to eat meat. I simply cited my anthropology and chemistry double majors, and proceeded to berate her and her "moral high ground". Plus, imagine how brutally a cow would get slaughtered in the wild? I think it is almost humane to slit its throat compared to the wounds it would suffer. Not that I really care: the only thing I am really focused on is performance, and a vegetarian diet, or a diet that consists mainly of lot-fed meet will not help me to achieve this end. So there. |
