June - Burpup challenge

this will be a 30 day challenge. a burpup (or burpee to pull up) is a combination of a burpee and a pull up. to perform a burpup you execute a burpee under a pull up bar. at the end of the burpee during the jumping phase you use that momentum from the jump to complete a pull up for 1 rep.

we will perform an additional +2 burpups everyday. so on june 1st you will do 2 burpups, then on june 2nd you perform 4 burpups, on the 3rd you perform 6 burpups, and so on....... until on day 30 you perform 60 burpups.

if you start late or miss a day you will be able to buy in by executing all of the previous days missed burpups in order to keep up with the overall daily challenge total.

this should be fun. the previous two occasions i have done this challenge i had seen excellent results.

Re: June - Burpup challenge

I dislocated my right ring finger on thursday doing handstand walking, so this competition is going to be interesting with my finger in a splint for a few weeks. Gonna give it a go anyway. CrossFit has taught me that a little "boo-boo" like a dislocation might slow me down... but its not gonna stop me!

Re: June - Burpup challenge

good to see you guys are in!

i am going to keep a running total at the bottom of my posts everyday so that we can keep track of this challenge & if anyone wants to buy in they will know how many reps they need to do to catch up.

today +2 burpups - 2 total

Re: June - Burpup challenge

I'm going to recruit a few people from my affiliate to do this as well.

Everyone needs work on burpees, let alone burpee pull ups.

thanks wes! at the end of january i strained my calf playing soccer then i blew out my back doing deads for a cft. i was out around 2 months. still not 100% but good enough to get back at it.

michael, thats cool that you are getting other members at your affiliate to participate. in the past crossfit affliction down in florida joined one of our challenges. it definitely pushed everyone harder.

from my experience there are a few ways to handle this challenge to get a good all around effect. as the challenge progresses and the daily totals get higher & higher i like to approach each day differently. one day i will do the daily total as fast as possible for time, then the next day i might do them tabata style, then the next i might take them really slow which makes it almost like a dynamic stretching exercise, and so on.... i just thought i would share this with you guys, but you can do this however you want.

today +4 burpups - 6 total

Re: June - Burpup challenge

OK, so are Jumping Pullups acceptable? I'm guessing yes, but I just want to clarify because I'm still working toward getting back to doing "real" pullups...but that sounds like a good warm up.
