Box Jumps?

The gym I go to does not have a 24in box so what I have to use is a 17in bench. What I have been doing is using a 25lb weight and doing the box jumps with them is that a good sub or should I just double the amount of box jumps?

Also I'm in the process of building a box just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Re: Box Jumps?

I'm not sure using that 25lb is gonna be good for your joints/spine compression.

I would just use the 17, and mark in your log that you are using 17. No big deal.

BUILD your 24!

Re: Box Jumps?

by using a 17 inch box you're technically speaking. but if you're worried about that you could just do more box jumps. maybe 25% more box jumps since you're loosing about 25% of the height.

or you could use the 25 lb weight and do step ups onto the 17 inch box instead.

just my two cents.

Re: Box Jumps?

Another option is straddle hops. I think they are a little harder than box hops, so the sub would be 1:1.

Straddle the bench, sit down on it, then hop up.

Re: Box Jumps?

Well I was just wondering what some subs could be besides the method I was already using I'll try the stradle hops the next time see how they work and the 25% more too see which one works better.

Hopefully I can get this box built soon I tried once but I didn't do something right and in the middle of a 50 box jump round it caved and gave me some serious splinters in the shin.

Re: Box Jumps?

the boxes are very easy to build. i built 3 in about an hour. i have a 16,20, and 24. if i can't get outside to do jump routines i just do step ups with a 25lber in each hand. i like the step ups as much as the jumps.

Re: Box Jumps?

Tuck jumps.

No one likes properly executed tuck jumps with knees to chest. Worse than any box jump.

Jump over the bench? Both over and side to side?

I worry that I wouldn't do them to their proper height on every rep. Would it be preferable to jump as high as possible, or just seek to get the knees to the chest in as little vertical movement as possible? Over-thinking it?
