Honestly, going forward, your best bet is going to be to switch themes — I wouldn't mention it normally, because people can get really attached to a theme — but since you brought it up... it's just easier to not deal with so many background images.

If you go looking for a new theme, and want some feedback about ones you're considering, go ahead and post them here. I'm happy to take a look, and let you know how easy (or not) it's going to be to customize them.

Have a great New Year,

I've already resized all the associated images, plus the documents that tell it what size, and it just did something weird (it was like a year ago so I forget what it did exactly).

I'm not too attached to the theme, though if I can find a good looking one that's organized well, I'd switch asap. Plus this one was written partly in Italian (if you dig around enough, there's probably a few plaintext links in Italian, like "Alberini Precedenti"

Re: Official WordPress users thread.

If you have ideas of what you're looking for in a theme, I'm happy to make suggestions. "Organized well" can mean different things to different people, so I'd want to make sure I'm pointing you in the right direction. (WordPress is my business, so I'm pretty up on what's good and what's garbage.)

And if it's easier to talk, I'm happy to; drop me an email with times that are good for you.

Re: Official WordPress users thread.

Hi,

This is driving me nuts but i'm sure its simple! Does anyone know how to get spaces between paragrahs (more than one)? Im not too sure with all the cades etc but, it might look fine in the visual part but as soon as you hit save (the post) the spaces vanish only leaving one?!?!?!
Any suggestions?

Re: Official WordPress users thread.

This is one of those places where WordPress gets interesting. It's a good thing, really, because it's saving us from creating inconsistent pages in the rare case we hit the return key too many times.

Ideally, space is created through your css styling of your various elements—headlines, paragraphs, etc.—not through multiple line spaces.

But if you're intentionally trying to create space, it's a bear.

Here are the two options I'd recommend:

1. Use blank paragraphs. To do this, go into the HTML view of the post/page editor (up at the top of the editing window, where there are two tabs: 'Visual' and 'HTML' - click the HTML one), and where you want additional space, type: <p>&nbsp;</p>

That's unicode for a blank space - and WordPress should recognize that it's there on purpose, and not delete it. Save your post, and refresh the page in question, and see if it worked.

2. Use multiple line breaks. Same deal - go into HTML view, and where you want more space, type as many <br/> tags as you need to get the spacing you want. So, it might look like this:

... end of paragraph text.
<br/>
<br/>
<br/>
New paragraph begins.

Again, save and test.

YMMV, though - I haven't found this to be 100% consistent, so see what works for you.

If neither work, let me know, and we'll figure out an advanced option for you... or, I'll convince you not to use so many spaces.

If there's a good reason why you need to do this on a regular basis, it's best to create a css-based rule, so you can apply it consistently and not have to do this again and again. Good luck!

Re: Official WordPress users thread.

Hi

This thread hasn't been active in awhile and I've gone through every page to see if my question was answered previously but I don't seem to see it.

I'm trying to figure out how to make the logo at the top of our pages be linked to return to the frontpage. Is this even possible?

Appreciate any help. Thanks!

Re: Official WordPress users thread.

Hey Dave,

It sure is... usually, if you can get into your header.php, you'll see where the img tag is, and you just have to put the link code around it. It should look something like this...

<a href="http://CrossFitwhatever.com"><img src="your image file"/></a>

What's your site? If you give me the link, I'll look at the code and be able to tell you exactly where to put this code. Also, some themes put images in their headers using css (as a background image); those can still be linked, but the code will look a bit different. Once I know what you've got going on, I can tell you how to link it up.

Thanks, Adam.

Our site is www.crossfitdurham.com. (w/f/s) do you need my wp-admin account stuff? also, while you're in there can you see why my sidebar widgets aren't showing up on the front page...they're only showing on the other pages.

thanks for your help
