Re: Rob Orlando
Mikko was stung by a stingray (but cleared by medical to continue if he felt okay). Rob just felt like he was sinking and swallowed too much salt water.
Update: All my updates were coming from Twitter. Apparently some are saying Mikko busted his ear drum, but can continue if he chooses. |

Re: Rob Orlando
Damn, that really sucks for Mikko. He's definitely one of the top guys. To an extent you can prepare your body and intelligently approach the WODs to severely reduce the likelihood of injury. But, there isn't **** you can do about getting stung by a stingray. Poor guy.

Re: Rob Orlando
I have a dark humor, but how awesome would it have been if they put dangerous animals in all of the events? They could do chained tigers in the stadium being held by volunteers like they had in Gladiator.

Re: Rob Orlando
On a more serious note, that's amazingly bad luck on an ocean swim of only 210 meters, close to shore, which should take, what... 4-5 minutes tops? If they'd have said stung by a jellyfish it'd seem way more plausible. A stingray? Just, wow.

Re: Rob Orlando
Stingrays do not aggressively attack humans, though stings do normally occur if a ray is accidentally stepped on.[12] To avoid stepping on a stingray in shallow water, the water should be waded through with a shuffle.[13] Alternatively, before wading, stones can be thrown into the water to scare stingrays away.[14] Contact with the stinger causes local trauma (from the cut itself), pain, swelling, muscle cramps from the venom, and later may result in infection from bacteria. The injury is very painful, but seldom life-threatening unless the stinger pierces a vital area.[12] The barb usually breaks off in the wound, and surgery may be required to remove the fragments.

Re: Rob Orlando
Yeah that sounds miserable. Now he just has about 10 events to go!
Is it clear that he definitely really was stung by a stingray? It's not just a rumor? |
