Opt
Has anyone here followed OPT's programming? If so, what are your thoughts on it?

Re: Opt
cant say i always follow it but from time to time i do, i think OPT is a very good athlete and that is directly connected to his programing. He is one of the few crossfitters that truly understands fitness and is able to build a very good well rounded program. But i would not recomend his program to everyone

Re: Opt
I've done it for most of the last 8 months and think it's some of the best stuff out there. It's a good mix of strength, conditioning, and technique work, and incorporates logical progressions and deload periods. It's far from random and doesn't make the mistake of telling people to go 100% every day for a prolonged period of time. The fact that OPT tailors his programming in response to the results people post says a lot--he reads the comments every day, tracks individual progress, and uses it to determine when he needs to change focus or dial things back for a few days.
I switched over to it after about 3 months of linear progression on the old CFWF template and saw my strength numbers continue to increase even as I leaned out and got my conditioning back. I credit all his tempo work for that, as well as doing stuff like weighted ring dips and close grip bench press pretty frequently. I would agree that it's geared more towards intermediate or advanced athletes--even with more than two years of CF experience I found myself having to scale a lot of stuff back at first. The two a days and three a days are also probably beyond the capabilities of a lot of new CFers. |

Re: Opt
+1 for everything Eric mentioned.
I've followed OPT's programming for a full year, and I put anyone in my gym with competitive CF aspirations on it, as well. |

Re: Opt
OPT's blog seems cool, but I'm unable to train in the morning, rest 8 hours and then train again in the evening... Does anybody else have the same problem if they follow OPT?

Re: Opt
i would imagine doing just one of the workouts would be difficult enough, just choose the one that fits your goals best. or leave it for the weekend

Re: Opt
Do what you can--hit the part that you need the most work on, or do them without the 8 hours in between. That's not the ideal solution because you won't be recovered enough to go all out on the second part, but it's probably better than not doing it.
