EU affiliates against CROSSGYM

Hello my brothers and sisters from across the world. It has been a long time, for which I apologise. I am writing to you all today to ask for your help in the fight for CrossFit in Europe. Currently there is a lawsuit from CROSSGYM against the trademark of CrossFit in the EU. There will be links posted shortly. The short story is that if this suit wins, the name by which we hold dear and have fought to protect for years will be worth nothing. Any gym regardless of qualifications, expertise, passion or belief will be able to offer CrossFit classes. We, the affiliate owners who have sacrificed to bring what we care about to others will suffer the most. I kindly ask you to post this information on every available platform you can. We NEED to fight this. I have been involved in CrossFit for many years now and the threat to the thing that I not only love, but defines how I and my family live, is real. Let's show them what this community can do.

Kind regards,

Karl Steadman

Re: EU affiliates against CROSSGYM

Question. Are they fighting to be able to use the name CrossFit or maintain using the name CrossGym?

Also what exactly are you asking people to do? Its good to bring attention to an issue, but is there some way people in the US can help with a lawsuit in Europe? Sign a petition or something? What can people do and what are you asking us to do?

Re: EU affiliates against CROSSGYM

The outcome of this court case may dictate the future of the CrossFit affiliate program and CrossFit affiliates in Europe (and could set a precedent for the rest of the world). If CrossGym are successful and the CrossFit EC verbal trademarks are deemed invalid, any non-CrossFit gym owner / trainer could potentially promote / offer "CrossFit" training in Europe regardless of their qualifications in, or passion for, the methodology and community we all love.

As a coach to competitive CrossFitters, I'm worried about the consequences that a worst case scenario could have on the development of CrossFit as a sport in Europe (integrity in posting results during the Open for example).

Please, let's not allow our community to lose this important cause. You can help by just sharing the information so CrossFitters world wide know what's going on.

Re: EU affiliates against CROSSGYM

Karl - I am with you all the way! Here to FIGHT!! Here is my opinion:

The reality of this is that if Cross Gym win, CrossFit loses. How does CrossFit lose exactly? Sure, affiliates will still run and members will still WOD the way they have been taught - with integrity and quality. BUT, what CrossFit loses, and what affiliate owners/ambassadors of CrossFit lose, is all the hard work that has been done in chasing excellence.

Look at our community! We are so connected because we all have been through the same thing, no matter what state or country we are in. We all know what it feels like to get the "Fran" cough, followed by the "Popeye forearms". PR'ing on a major lift or WOD is something we can all relate to, as well as the euphoric feeling of achieving something you never knew possible! How do we know this? We know this because each and every affiliate owner has been through the Level 1 Trainer Course, and has seen the high standards CrossFit expects from their ambassadors.

Now imagine if Cross Gym wins this law suit. What does that mean? Quite simply, it means that you no longer need to go through the Level 1 Trainer Course to run a CrossFit program. Quite simply, it means we lose quality! It means, any Tom, Dick or Harry can Google CrossFit, think they understand what CrossFit is, and put on a class. It devalues CrossFit! slaps every affiliate owner in the face. It says to them, "We don't care about quality or integrity of the program. We just want to do CrossFit and not give credit where credit is due. We don't want give back, but rather hop on the back of a high speed train without paying."

CrossFit is where it is today BECAUSE we care about quality, and we care about the constant pursuit of excellence! If Cross Gym wins, wave goodbye to what makes our program so effective and unique, and say a BIG hello to circuit training and a long list of injuries.

You have the chance to make a difference. You have a chance to share this message to anyone and everyone who will listen. If it seems like this is a lot to ask, then ask yourself this, 'How much has CrossFit given to you? How much as CrossFit empowered your lives and the lives of those around you?' Supporting CrossFit through this is a small price to pay for the rewards we have all reaped by doing CrossFit. This is it, folks...time to make a difference! Share, share, share, and like, like, and link!

Your European CrossFit family needs you! Speak up, post what you know and let's rally to support your brothers and sisters across the pond.

Thanks so much,

Re: EU affiliates against CROSSGYM

It's down right disgusting. When I look at the links posted, it comes to mind how these people are just trying to make a buck (euro). How easy it is to steal someone else's idea and make money off of it. I for one will not buy equipment or compete in challenges from person's or companies that cheat or steal. period.

Re: EU affiliates against CROSSGYM

First of all I am a garage gym crossfitter, stealing the ideas from the main site and from you guys, don't even have a CF level1 certificate, but still:
one thing is not so clear for me: in case of CrossGym wins, anybody in Europe can open a crossfit gym, without any qualification?!
Now, tell me how the hell can somebody teach Snatch or C&J without any serious experience and knowledge?
Or maybe you pay some gym entry fee and you are on your own to do whatever you want.....(that is similiar to the current Globo gym method)-> that will cause lack on progression, funny youtube videos to upload and INJURIES.
I mean any stupid wannabe can do some bench press without hurting him/herself, but for example snatch is way different. I took 2 months of intensive weighlifting training lessons from a hungarian world champion, and still learning the proper moves....

Jesus, that sounds stupid.
Who knows? Who cares?
