I'm getting a new bar and bumpers and need to get some sort of rack.

What's the advantage to a power rack over a simple adjustable press/squat stand? I dont' need the pull up bar or dip attachments that a power rack can offer. Are there any other benefits to them?

If you don't need the pull up bar, I would say go with the squat stands. Dumping the weight shouldn't be a problem with bumpers. Just my 2 cents.

With the rack you have the safety factor when doing back squats or bench presses without a spotter. Of course you can get spotting stands to use with a squat stand to get the same effect, and which you can move out of the way when not in use. Chris

I bought the power rack for the safety with self-spotting that Chris mentions above.

I go with the power rack. For safety and versatility (SP??) Beside the above mentioned, I do dips on mine. set the rack height and put two olympic bars to form parallel bars (you could use a piece of pipe if you don't have two oly bars). You can hang rings of the chin up bar too. If you do much powerlifting you can do partials of the rack safely. I rarely miss lifts in the rack but it give me comfidence to try heavy and not have to find a spotter.
