Injury from dips?
I apologize if this has been discussed in another thread; I did a few searches and didn't find anything explicitly related.
I've been doing crossfit fairly regularly for abouy 6 months with no problems. Recently I was beginning with the "official" warm-up, as usual, and was doing unassisted dips. At some point (full extension on the dip I think) felt/heard a "popping" noise on the inner edge of my left pectoral, almost directly above the sternum. It felt sort of like a knot being pulled out, and I didn't exactly "hear" a popping, I definitely felt one. This was accompanied by a flash of pain and loss of strength on the left. The pain lasted for quite a few minutes and I felt flares even while I did sit-ups and back extensions (obviously I quit the dips).
I assume I damaged a ligament connecting my pectoral to my sternum? Googling didn't give me as precise an answer as I wanted so I thought I might come by here.
I rested a few days but pain/weakness persisted - dips are pretty much impossible and even after a few reps of bench press I get twinges in the same spot, so I've quit all chest exercises for now.
Any advice on how long this might take to heal, things I can do to speed it up, and how I can prevent this in the future?
(edit: background: I'm 26 years old (today) and in great health other than this.)
