Best study ever!

"About 30 men and women participated in a four and a half week training program at the University of Texas at Austin that included cycling hard for an hour a day, five days a week. Right after their ride and again an hour later, subjects drank chocolate milk or a carb beverage. The 2011 study found that chocolate milk drinkers gained more lean muscle and lost more body fat than those downing the carb drink."

You do realize that isn't surprising, right? Protein + carbs has been 100% proven to be a better PWO "meal" than just carbs.

No I know. Chocolate milk has been touted for a while by people who actually train to be a great post workout drink. I just enjoyed finally hearing a study about it because chocolate milk is delicious!

Re: Best study ever!

Did they detail what type of Chocolate milk? There are several on the market and some use Sugar while others use HFCS. I imagine there is at least a little difference.

Probably not that much, actually. The big problem with HFCS is that it's a marker for overly sweetened, highly processed foods. Replacing it with sugar would not make the foods that have it any healthier.

I was under the impression that it might effect how quickly the Sugar gets to your muscles. Fructose vs other sugars. In the big scale of things I would think probably not a huge difference -- but if TruMoo is $1.99 and made with Sugar while Nesquik is $1.99 and made with HFCS -- I would get the TruMoo -- what do you think?

Sucrose is 50% glucose and 50% fructose whereas HFCS is about 45% glucose and 55% fructose so it doesn't really matter which is used as a sweetener as your body can't tell them apart.
