Tractor Tire double as a Sandbox?

We are getting a tractor tire for flips and such, but don't have a place to store it. Someone suggested having it double as a sandbox for the kids. . . . perhaps making a circular concrete form for the sandbox, that I could then slide the tire on and off when we needed it. Has anyone done something like this? Thoughts / suggestions?

If you're constructing something to contain the sand anyway, why bother putting the tractor tire over it?

Why not just lean it up against the side of your house?

Hahahaha! I understand this completely, that's why I lean mine against the shed.

Yes I am. But, the backyard is MY territory. I don't have a tractor tire yet, but I am trying to find one. I told Christie I'd keep it up against the side of the house, and she tried to fight it at first, until I told her that if she wants to start mowing the lawn, weeding, edging, fertilizing, turning on and off the sprinklers at pre and post dawn (we live in country and there are lots of wild animals around) - IF she did all of that, then I'd gladly let her make the rules for what can and can't go in the backyard.

Besides, I've got a 6ft wooden fence, so nobody would see it unless they came into the backyard. So wifey doesn't really have a reason to care, in my case.

Re: Tractor Tire double as a Sandbox?

In regards to your original question, I'm not sure that the sandbox thing would work out. The inside diameter of a tire, even a very large one, is not going to provide a big enough space for a sandbox. At least, if I was a kid, I wouldn't be impressed with it...haha. There aren't many ways to disguise a giant tire. If I ever acquire one, it will go between the back of my shed and the 6' fence...completely out of sight. That's the only way it would ever fly with the lady.

I'm not sure what your property looks like but the only things I can think of are building a fenced enclosure for the trash cans and making it a little extra big for the tire? Room in the garage/shed/under the deck?

Maybe you should invest in a shed to keep your lager outdoor items...

Re: Tractor Tire double as a Sandbox?

Depending on whether or not the tire is tall enough on its side, you could just throw a table top on it with a few chairs around it. Just move the table top while flipping and you got yourself a little picnic area.
