Re: Post Your Average Day in the Zone

Starbucks Venti coffee with half and half and cane sugar (So sue me!)

4 slices of natural deli ham
couple hand-fulls of mixed nuts (mostly walnuts)
1/2 cup of black berries, blue berries and strawberries

Huge spinach salad with lots of different colored peppers, tomatoes, 2 cups of raw broccoli, 4 slices of natural turkey, less than 1/4 cup of crumbled blue cheese and lots of olive oil and balsamic vinegar for dressing

One medium to large sized apple with an a**load of natural peanut butter (tried almond butter the other day... and it was disgusting).

Some type of protein, i.e. fish, chicken or meat/beef and lots and lots of vegetables usually with olive oil.

At all meals I have water to drink except for tonight and tomorrow when I plan to consume an excessive amount of beer and wine. Oh well, have to indulge every now and then.

Re: Post Your Average Day in the Zone

What I am noticing with these responses is that most people really don't get too fancy with a good diet. This is what I was saying in my original post, about how the Zone books have recipes and analysis that make it seem like more than it is. Actually, I am probably currently eating somewhere close to the way some of you are I just need to cut the sugar and get rid of the carbs.

PS - I know some of these aren't strict zoners, but just "good clean eaters"

Re: Post Your Average Day in the Zone

you're right. i read one of the books and saw the recipes. they seemed a bit time consuming and with an 8mo old i don't always have the time to cook a meal with tons of measuring. and at times, paying that much attention to detail while running on a couple hours of sleep doesn't work.

i keep it simple. i just pick from the favorable list. i do a handful of different meals and change it up every time i go grocery shopping. although liquid meals aren't the best, i do this when i'm on the go...

blender meal...3 blocker
1c strawberries (1 carb)
1/4c non fat, plain cottage cheese (1 protein/1 carb)
1/2c non fat, plain yogurt (1 protein/1 carb)
9 almonds (3 fat)
1c 2% milk (1 protein)

the sweeter the strawberries, the better it tastes. you could use non fat vanilla yogurt but you add sugar there. i sometimes opt for brown cow vanilla yogurt but i try not to.

journal 21 (i think) has some good, simple examples. it's a free one too.

Re: Post Your Average Day in the Zone

Typical day: 12 blocks

4 BL breakfast:
6 fl oz coconut milk
1.5 scoops chocolate whey protein powder
1.5 c frozen cherries
1 TBS raw cocoa powder
+(on the side) 1.25 c broccoli w/ balsamic vinegar

1.5 oz smoked salmon
1/2 apple
3 cashews

Lunch (3 bl)
2.5 c broccoli
1 c fake chicken (yeah I know, I'm a veg)
3 tbs avocado
1.5 oz salmon

1/4 c cottage cheese
1/2 apple
1 tsp almond butter

Dinner (3 blocks)
1 large salad
1 veggie burger (has 4 blocks of fat)
balsamic vinegar
.25 c cottage cheese
1 apple

That's a typical day, although not every day. I alternate breakfasts between 3 standard ones (either 3 or 4 blocks depending on my mood/schedule for the day). Didn't do that today -- had some dark chocolate as part of lunch, and had tofu, roasted veggies, salmon, and greek salad for dinner.

Re: Post Your Average Day in the Zone

All meals are measured out to 5 blocks and snacks to 1

-Omelette with 3 eggs, onions, bell peppers, mushrooms, and some sort of lean meat (diced ham, turkey bacon, chicken sausage). A little bit of cheese.
-Fruit (usually an apple or strawberries). Sometimes Ill have a bowl of steel cut oats with blueberries instead.

-Big plate of romaine or spinach greens with balsamic vinegar and cucumbers.
-Some sort of lean meat like grilled chicken or turkey. I usually have something already made in the fridge ready to go.
-Fruit (apple or strawberries again usually)
-Nuts - usually almonds or macadamias

Afternoon Snack
- Glass or milk with some nuts
-Cottage cheese and fruit with some nuts
-Few slices of deli meat with an apple and some nuts

Too many options to list, Grilled fish, chicken, beef, turkey etc.
Sometimes Ill make a stir fry with zucchini, onions, mushrooms, and chicken. Always have a plate of greens or some steamed broccoli with dinner.

Night snack,

Same as afternoon

Good Luck!
