If you really want a six-pack...

Go read this:
http://nerdfitness.com/blog/2011/06/...to-6-pack-abs/ (WFS, shirtless male pics)

My opinion of six-packs is well-known by now but, hey, goals are goals. If that's something that matters to you, note in particular that this guy got below 10% bf while his weight actually *increased.* You can starve yourself skinny, but you can't build muscle that way.

Katherine

PS Link by way of https://www.facebook.com/gathernomoss (WFS), who gets a free plug because I went to high school with the owner.

Being crossfitters, i think we value physical performance over appearance. someone who wants a six pack would be far better off going to bodybuilding.com. IMO, A six pack comes as the result of doing crossfit and eating healthy.

Re: If you really want a six-pack...

I somewhat agree with Martin. But, to each their own. I started CrossFit in the spring of '06. I honestly could care less if I have a 6 pack or not. I'm married, 4 kids, yada yada. BUT, being disciplined with your workouts and eating decent will result in some abdominal definition-if not a LOT. I can't help that I've got a couple raviolis sticking out but I don't focus on them. I just live the CrossFit lifestyle. I'm more concerned with my performance than appearance. I can have some love handles or whatever, but as long as I'm strong, fast, flexible, etc...I'm happy.

Of course. This is why 95% of Crossfit men exercise shirtless, the short-shorts with knee socks uniform is ubiquitous, and it appears the #1 goal of most Crossfit women is to get their photo on Wild Gorillaman's blog.

That couldn't be further from the truth.

If you said we value both then I would agree.

of course everyone puts importance on their physique, im saying as crossfitters, we would prefer to have a 500 deadlift and a 3min Fran than having big biceps.

Re: If you really want a six-pack...

abs have so much genetics to them its not even funny. diet and exercise are cool and all, but if you dont have it, you wont get it.
got dunk tanked at 10.4% bf with no visible abs.
other dood at our box was got 13.6 and practically has the abs of a god. he eats like crap and barely trains more than 3x a week with a little extra running on the side.
i on the other hand eat paleo zone, and train as much as i can within the realms of recovery. it was after the above incident that i said, well frick, looks like its just not gonna happen, bummer.
looks like my goal of getting to the SoCal Regionals now has a star next to it being: Get to Regionals, and be the only competitor without a six pack.

Re: If you really want a six-pack...

I'm with you Martin. In the beginning days of CrossFit, it wasn't about how you looked. It was about their performance while climbing or whatever. In the Special Operations community it's not about how you look, it's about performance. Once it became mainstream and people realized it works, more people wanted to do it. Now, we've go the movie 300 and, all-in-all, CF'ers just look awesome and people want to look like them. I workout with my shirt off, shoes or 5 fingers with Ranger Panties. I could care less what I look like. As long as I can run, dodge and jump.
