I have a 13yo daughter that weighs 72 lbs. She can dead lift 100 lbs with better form than I have. I heard that lifting heavy weights at a young age will stunt your growth. Is there any truth in that?

Clay,
Lifting a weight that you are unprepared to lift can be harmful at any age. Kids derive the same benefits from lifting that other testosterone challenged groups do. These include:
-Increased muscular strength and endurance
-Protection of joints
-Stronger bones
-Improved performance in sports
The CrossFit Kids Magazines (February 2006) has an article regarding kids and weightlifting. It addresses your question. In our research we found plenty of people saying that weights were harmful to kids, and absolutetly no evidence to support their statement. On the other hand we found plenty of evidence that it is beneficial and included an article on the benefits in the CrossFit Kids Magazine (March 2006).
