Insurance before location

I'm one step away from affiliating, but I'm having trouble with the insurance. It seems that Sportfitness and HTR Insurance require you to have a facility before they'll provide any coverage.

We're presently training in a park with the goal of getting a location asap.

Any advice?

Re: Insurance before location

Venbrook will cover you as a trainer for about $250/year and you can train anywhere.

Re: Insurance before location

Personal Professional Liability and Premises Liability are two different things. One is to cover your *** in case you F someone up while you're training them. The other is to cover you if someone slips and falls in your place.

I actually decided to go through a local broker for my Premises Liability which I just got yesterday. Sport Fitness/HTR whatever it is sent me these forms to fill out asking all sorts of questions about the building. I don't have time for that. That's what an agent's for. I walked into the agent's office yesterday and 20 min. later walked out with insurance. No hassle at all.

Re: Insurance before location

Besides that, you need insurance before you can sign a lease. That's the way it goes. HTR can screw off.

Re: Insurance before location

Brian- Thanks. I'm going with them and everything looks good.

Randy- I know exactly what you mean. HTR wanted me to fill out four pages of forms. When I called for some guidance I was treated like I was wasting her time or dumb for not knowing insurance lingo.

Kim- go with Venbrook. It takes 5 minutes to apply and the rates are reasonable.

It's good to know they're consistently useless and aggravating.
