Home made Jerk Boxes

Hey all,

Very excited about some possible new PR's that will come with these new jerk boxes. Just a little motivation, 7 hours of work and $130 worth of 2x4's.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Those look super solid and easy to construct.

Do they breakdown at all to modify for various heights?

What is the red rope for?

Hey I'm unfamiliar with a 'jerk' box? Is it just to train the jerk from certain heights? If so is this just for the advanced lifter?

Re: Home made Jerk Boxes

Jerk boxes are usefull when you are doing heavy jerks in that you don't have to recover to the rack position. You drop the bar onto the jerk box, rack with a 1/4 squat, jerk the bar overhead, repeat. Eliminates having to re-clean the bar if you are unable to recover to the rack position.

Could also be used for box jumps if you're feeling really saucy.

Re: Home made Jerk Boxes

On the top layer did you consider putting a small lip on the front and back edge to the weights don't roll off?

Is the entire stack one single unit? Or can you add/remove layers to adjust height (Not an issue if you're going to be the only one using it!).

Aaron, did you make these? I have a friend who is willing to be my carpenter, and I was looking at these plans and the ones that Catalyst has posted at http://www.cathletics.com/articles/a...p?articleID=52 (WFS)

Re: Home made Jerk Boxes

I've made them, and they worked great!! I only had one minor issue, the boxes would bounce and shift when you dropped heavier weights on them. If I were to do it again, I would find a way to weight them down or something to keep them from shifting.
