Crossfit Games 11.3 - Squat clean/jerk

The first rounds are in and they are huge - at this stage 40 for the leading guy and 30 for the leading lady.

At our little gym this might be the moment where many of our athletes struggle to complete one full movement let alone double numbers for results.

Is the purpose of this event to lower the participent numbers, or is it just a taste of whatever is to come after this is not for beginners?

Predictions on what the top athletes will achieve?

Mikko did Squat Grace @ 155# in 2:38 after the '09 Games (and following several WODs). Someone's gonna get 50 reps/100 pts for sure.

Re: Crossfit Games 11.3 - Squat clean/jerk

I think 50 may be pushing it, but I think someone will get damn close!

165 isn't much heavier than 155, (significant over 5 minutes though!) but mainly its that last half. People are going to slow down bigtime. Someone may be able to get 30 reps in around 3 min (that would be damn impressive on its own) but to maintain the same pace and get another 20 in 2 min seems unrealistic.
I think a score of 40 and above is phenomenal. I'll be shooting for 35.

I'm with Jay on this.
I'd expect the top performers to be in the 42-45 range.
These are going to be seriously strong dudes with solid engines - zero breaks (other than perhaps a calming gasp or two) over the course of the time domain.

Not arguing with that, but if you look at his other scores the shadyness settles in.

Re: Crossfit Games 11.3 - Squat clean/jerk

80 reps is 40 cleans and 40 jerks, right? It's still monstrous, but I think doable for someone very very strong.

How does his other scores make it more shady? The first workout he got 6 rounds and 17 double unders, and the second one he got 11 rounds and two deadlifts. He's not like some of the people who got 15+ rounds on the second workout, whom Bergeron and Sherwood called questionable.
