Re: Having Trouble Squatting

It almost looks like a balance issue to me, upper body balance and lower body balance are very different was one outweighs the other.

Try not leaning forward and acting like you are sitting in a chair with your hands out just sink down with your butt over your feet. Point your toes out and don't be afraid to fall put your knees forward like your sitting on your heels while on your tip toes. Then slowly recover from that position till it becomes a breeze will work on your balance and form.

As you won't look for yourself.

The first few contain the meat of the information, the rest are variations on the theme. Any of them would help you.

yes well that is because you have way to narrow a stance.

I would bet with decent coaching you could be squatting to full depth pretty quickly, perhaps finding a coach in the area would be an easier solution to this?

"Or maybe an assisted squat using a pole to hang onto? "

Yep, exactly. There are some videos on youtube showing this, it sounds like it's a movement issue for you that you just need to learn and there's nothing basic preventing you from achieving it.

Re: Having Trouble Squatting

What Robert said. Your flexibility looks fine, but your feet are way too close together in both videos. Shoulder width is probably the minimum, and you may need to go a few inches wider than that.

Re: Having Trouble Squatting

A front view might better help diagnose the problem...but from the side it looks like the main problem is that your stance is too narrow.

It looks like you stall on the descent--not because of a lack of flexibility--but rather because you're not opening the hips so, consequently, your pelvis has no where to go.

Here, IMO, is the best how-to-air-squat-video out there (WFS). Try box squatting in this manor, gradually lowering the height of the box, and you'll be breaking parallel in no time.
