Buy more Optimum Nutrition or try Nitrean

My 5# of ON Vanilla Chai Whey is almost out and I'm going to order some more protein. I was reading through the archives here and there seems to be somewhat of a consensus around Nitrean. I like the taste of ON, I can mix it with basically anything and it still tastes good. Is the same true of Nitrean?

Any idea who has the best deal on Nitrean?

thanks,
Brent

Re: Buy more Optimum Nutrition or try Nitrean

I've was going through the archives and saw your post. I guess no one answered you which sux. I drink 2-3 servings a day of ON 100% whey and/or casein protein. I think for the most part, CFers aren't too big on getting the protein this way as they prefer to get it from whole food sources. I have tried to get answersa before with no luck. As far as Nitrean, it is the protein that Men's Health is always raving about. I haven't ever seen it available other than on the site for the company. It cost around $53.00 for a 4.6lb tub. That is expensive. You can get ON 100% Whey, 5lbs for less than $40.00. I mean really, as far as whether or not the protein powders even work, well I guess that's debatable, but for the price, I will probably stick with ON, or you can look for a company called All the Whey, they were selling 5lbs of Whey(concentrate, isolate mixed) for like $30.00.

Good Luck. If you already bought the Nitrean, I'd like to hear back from you. Heck, maybe its worth the $50.00. Also, they just introduced BSN Syntha-6 in a 5lb tub for around $43.00 - $50.00.

wow. Graveyard. Last week, slickdeals popped up this deal:

2x5 lbs ON protein for $65 delivered...

Can't beat that...

I got Vanilla Chai (which I love) and Strawberry Banana (which is merely "okay)

Re: Buy more Optimum Nutrition or try Nitrean

AtLarge is the supplier of Nitrean, and the owners are good people.

I like the powder. It tastes very good, and more importantly it's better than ON Whey most of the time. Whey is very fast digesting, but it doesn't stop catabolism. Casein is slow digesting, and it stops catabolism. Egg protein is in between. All 3 are high quality proteins, but there are times when one is more ideal than the other. Casein is best before bed, because it digests as you sleep. Pre/during workout whey is pretty ideal because you want it going to your muscles right away. At all other times of the day (including post-workout), a protein blend of the three is ideal. Nitrean is a blend.

Matrix 5.0 is another blend. It also tastes seriously great and it's cheaper than Nitrean (and possibly Whey).

For whatever reason, CF'ers don't believe in and don't know a ton about protein powder. I think part of it is that nutrient timing doesn't really matter on the Zone diet or something.

I don't know what the deal is with protein powder "not working." It's not like 25g of protein from Nitrean is going to be noticeably better than 25g of protein from chicken breasts. But, you can make/drink a shake really quickly. It's easy to transport and bring with you to work/school. And, per gram of protein, it's cheaper than probably anything else that doesn't also have tons of bad carbs and/or bad fats.

I like ON's Grape Creatine Load Complex Mix. When drinking it, you almost feel guilty because of how good it is. I use cytogainer whey but when that is done, I might try ON's.

Re: Buy more Optimum Nutrition or try Nitrean

Nitrean is hands down the best protein I've ever used...for what the product contains, the price is fair (egg, casein, and whey proteins). At Large makes some great products, I would def. give it a try especially because for the next 5 days they're having a 10% off sale.
