What is the difference between a Ranger school slot and a slot with a Ranger battalion?

Re: 11b/ranger school

i didnt really know there was diff. i mean kinda but not really if you get assigned to a ranger battalion that means you have made it through RIP and are ranger qualified, not technically a ranger yet.. but being in the batt. you will definetly get chance at it

Re: 11b/ranger school

Ranger: US Army personnel assigned to the 75th Ranger Regiment.

Ranger-qualified: US Army personnel who have completed the Ranger Course and are authorized to wear the Ranger Tab.

You can be a Ranger and not be Ranger-qualified, you can be Ranger-qualified and not be a Ranger. The term Ranger denotes assignment to a particular unit; Ranger-qualified the completion of a certain school.

And with the new Ranger Support Companies it would be easier for you to get to 75th Ranger Regiment by staying an 88M.

Good luck.

PS. Why is this in the Fitness Forum?

Re: 11b/ranger school

No idea why it's in the fitness forum, but whatever. Anybody who wants to switch towards being an 11B gets my time. MUCH better community to be around. You won't see infantry hanging out at the yelling about how tough they are. They are tough.

As far as Ranger School, Regiment, etc., here a couple of new terms:

1. Being "tabbed" means that you've been to Ranger School. Infantry officers, for example, pretty much all go to Ranger school, and many enlistedmen go as well, but most are not in the 75th. These people can say about themselves that they've been through Ranger School. There's a video on youtube called "Ranger School promo" - check it out (definitely not work or family safe, unless you work on base of course)

2. Having a "scroll" means that you've deployed with one of the Ranger battalions. This is generally held in higher regard. These people can call themselves Rangers.

Re: 11b/ranger school

Lots of soldiers have completed RIP and wear the tab but aren't in the 75th Rangers.
