Re: Meniscus Tear and Returning to Cross Fit

If there's swelling... ice a lot... 15-20 mins every couple hours.

Re: Meniscus Tear and Returning to Cross Fit

Ok, almost two weeks after surgery here's where I'm at. I can squat down but it's plain ugly. I tend to lean to the left (my good knee) and find myself pushing off on the ball of my right foot to compensate. The "head" guy in Physical Therapy didn't seem to like the idea that I did Cross Fit. His comment when I told him that I followed CrossFit was "We get a lot of guys in here because of CrossFit." He also had me point my toes straight ahead while I did 3X10 Air Squats. Pain is pretty much non-existent with the exception of the bottom of the squat and the "ascent" of the squat (coming up from a deep squat). I'd almost hesitate to call it pain but rather just a sore and tight feeling.

Heh, heh... CF itself doesn't cause injuries.

Pushing yourself too hard or lack of prehab causes injuries.

Re: Meniscus Tear and Returning to Cross Fit

Hey Kevin - I wanted to give you a little light at the end of the tunnel. I have had three meniscus tears all with three surgeries on my left knee. And I have NO problems doing any of the workouts or squatting or anything. However, I am pretty sure I just tore my meniscus in my right knee about a month ago (I had an MRI this morning so I should know more conclusively once we get the results).

Apparently I am prone to this injury.

Some people have bad structural genetics...

Others develop bad structural b/c of poor movement patterns.

Others have existing problems.

One girl I know tore her ACL like 4-5 times before they figured out what was wrong and corrected it.

Some of the ACL tears I've seen are because of some bad movement patterns up at the hip which result in some flat feet which torque the tibia which leads to greater stress on the ACL and thus tearing. Same thing could happen with mensicus.

Shrug. Get a good PT to evaluate your gait...

That's a good idea. I think I may do that after I get this one repaired. It's getting really old. The good news is that the recovery is fairly quick with Meniscus tears.

Re: Meniscus Tear and Returning to Cross Fit

I had meniscus surgery almost 3 weeks ago and I'm still not walking right, let alone squating and working out like the rest of you. Getting VERY discouraged!!!!
