Re: GSP VS Thiago Alves

This is Georges' toughest test to date, and unlikely GSP vs BJ, is going to be a war!!!

I can't root for either:

Alves => I am Brazilian so obviously I am biased. Plus, he is a he!! of a fighter and trains out of ATT.

GSP => Great athlete and great ambassador for the sport. Plus, I've hung with him after he first won the title and he is such a nice guy it's impossible for me to ever root against him.

May the best man win!!!

Having said that, if I HAD to pick I would say Alves is going to shock the world and KO/TKO Georges.

LOL! Thanks Jeffrey.

Stanley, most likely this fight is about 3-4 months away. On a positive note, GSP was not damaged on Saturday night and should be able to return to training whenever he is finished with his much needed vacation.

Thiago is a huge WW and as we have seen, seems to barely make 170. He also has devastating power.

That being said, it's hard to bet against GSP unless it's against Anderson Silva. His fights all seem to go exactly where he wants them to go, when he wants them to go there. What would worry me is that GSP has not always been a quick finisher of fights and as long as there is time on the clock, Thiago can land a big shot and quickly finish an opponent.

I thought Fitch might be strong enough physically (especially with a wrestling background) that he would be able to have some input as to where the fight would go against GSP. Instead, he got beat the hell up for 5 full rounds. Fitch beat Alves a while back, but Alves seems to be a much better, more confident fighter now.

Early pick: GSP, if he can take Alves down and soften him up a bit...and not get hit with one of those knees!

Re: GSP VS Thiago Alves

I am excited for this fight! Normally, I have no problem picking a winner, but I am torn between the two. GSP will be the crowd favorite, but Thiago has the skills to give GSP the most trouble. I give the stand up to Thiago because he has the KO power and brutal leg kicks. GSP gets the wrestling/takedowns and G&P... It all depends on who comes up with the best strategy and executes it.

Is it possible that we might see someone overpower GSP???

(Disclaimer: I'm a BJ fan and I was pulling for him in the last fight)

I don't know. BJ's head might have softened GSP's hand.

Thiago Alves looks to be a real test for GSP. I cannot wait.

Re: GSP VS Thiago Alves

Watch the Alves/Fitch fight as well as the Alves /Koschek fight. GSP manhandled both of these guys while Alves had trouble with both.

GSP will win easily if he follows the same gameplan.

Re: GSP VS Thiago Alves

I think you should watch that fight again. Here is a quote from the UFC website.

" I donít know what fight two of the judges were watching, but Kos won the second round on my card for dominating the first 2:20 of the round, exacting more damage in that period than Alves did in the next 2:20 (the pair was locked up for the final 20 seconds). "
