Hey John!

I deadlift the first day of every other cycle (we follow 3 on 1 off) so every 8 days. I also try to get some speed work in with light weight from time to time. Once I'm done working my way up with singles, I'll drop the weight way back and start doing some 5x5 work and increase the weight every week. Once I get to a heavy set of 5, I'll drop back to sets of 3, and then to singles again. This should take several months. The goal is to start light so that I can gradually increase the weight every week and get a PR at the end of the cycle.

You made that look easy, get pumped up and go for 320.

You don't need SS, you need to deadlift.

Re: Approaching Triple Body Weight

Just a little update for those of you who don't read our journal.

Monday, September 22, 2008

Deadlifts
135x1
185x1
225x1
260x1
295x1
310x1 ?
310x1 ?

So...lifting the 310 is bitter sweet. The weight flew off the ground but I had trouble with the lockout. The first attempt, I obviously hitched it (which I've never done before) and was not pleased so I decided to wait a few minutes and try again. The second attempt again flew off the ground but lockout was a grinder. I didn't feel like it hitched but there was a bit of swaying. I'm really not sure if it would have passed in a powerlifting meet or not.

I'm not sure if I'm just not ready for this weight yet or if it's a combination of being sore as hell from the chinups on Saturday and not sleeping Saturday or Sunday night (hence the soreness - lol).

So, even though I picked up and locked out 310 pounds...TWICE...I'm hesitant to call it a PR.

I'm going to go for 315 next week and see what happens. You can be certain that I won't be eating any treats or partying all hours of the night this weekend.

Re: Approaching Triple Body Weight

GHR's help a lot with hitching and sled dragging.

Either all the way down as back extension or to parallel like the guy in the photos.

Re: Approaching Triple Body Weight

Are you scaling back your other training to be 100% for the 315?

I thought SS included DLs

Anyway, went for the interim PR & got up 410 (PR).

No, probably not. Although I'm considering taking an extra rest day beforehand.
