CrossFit at AF Bases

Anyone AF guys/gals have any experience in getting your base to come around and implement a CF type area?
If so, how'd you go about it?

Matthew! If you get anything set up, let me know. We train in my garage gym right now in Cal City. I haven't been to a cert yet, but plan to someday.... I work at NASA Dryden and am an AF vet, been here at Edwards since '94.

Nice to have someone in the area!

Hi Matt! MacDill AFB is just getting started. Give Ryan or Nathan a call at the South Tampa Affiliate webpage...I'm sure they can give you all the details of what they've done to get the ball rolling.

Re: CrossFit at AF Bases

Fairchild doesn't have crossfit on the Tanker side of the base but there's a lot of xfit equipment on the Survival side and a bunch of the SERE specialists are in to it. I think they just talked the facility manager in to buying the equipment for them. I don't know whether anyone is certed.

Re: CrossFit at AF Bases

Thanks everyone. Since we have the oldest gym in the Air Force, (they've been trying to get funding for about 10 years) I'm not holding my breath, but maybe they will see it as an easy upgrade.

and yes.. the gym was built in the 50's or early 60's, and you can definitely tell.

Re: CrossFit at AF Bases

Bolling AFB in Washington, DC, has a Crossfit gym. It started as a corner of the aerobics room, now we have a big section in the main weight area. Crossfit Alexandria comes over and teaches a few classes a week. I haven't been to those, but I go over and use it about 1-2 x week. The Air Force trainers there are a-holes (no chalk, no shirts off, general harassment of CFers) but it's still a place with all the gear.

How they got that to happen was there old CO came in and was a huge CFer - otherwise it wouldn't have happend: http://www.dcmilitary.com/stories/10...or_28032.shtml.

Crossfit Pentagon is trying to get up and running, but same problem with their Government hired trainers - beuracratic and lazy, don't want to change anything. They're making some progress though.

Re: CrossFit at AF Bases

We did CrossFit at our NCO academy at Goodfellow AFB before we deactivated in May. We used the track, pull up bars, and our imagination. Got great feedback across the board--especially from the installation fitness program manager. I say start with him or her and sell the program. PM me if you need some documents, etc. for a push.
