I'm sorry if this has already been discussed before, but I didn't see it elsewhere. When I started doing the workout of the day, I spent quite a bit of time checking out the workout archives, and tried out quite a few of the individual workouts where I could fit them into my last cycle.

I'm now trying to follow the workouts to the letter, but one question keeps coming to me - it seems a lot of the recent workouts use a fixed weight for an exercise (i.e. power cleans), regardless of bodyweight - while some of the archives had a percentage of bodyweight. Why is this?

Should I just think less about the load and do the workout? Should the load be adjusted if one weighs more? Are WOD's "periodized" so that if I continue through the year there'll be times of higher loads? Thanks for your time and consideration!

I've had this question too. :uhoh:Thanks for posting it. Sometimes I use the fixed weight called for and other times I lower the weight based some factors -
1. Not practiced enough in the lift to handle th load safely, like snatches and clean&jerk.
2. Lack of energy:lame:, sometimes I just use an empty bar because I'm so sore from the previous day's wod

As to your "periodization" question - In one of the CrossFit journals I think coach mentions that you will be asked to test your max. single rep on the various lifts about 3-5 times a year.
